The Collie Dog comes from Scotland and was bred originally to herd and guard sheep. The Collie Dog is also known by the other name of Scottish Collie and is famous as the breed of dog who starred in the popular 'Lassie' movies. The dog's name probably comes from the Scottish black-faced sheep it herded which were called the 'Colley'. This dog is classified as one of the Herding Dog Group which we go on to describe in detail in the section at the bottom of this page. The Collie Dog was first Registered by the AKC (American Kennel Club) in 1885.
